Multi-Million Pound Lifeline for Merseyside Workers Facing Redundancy

LSC

Workers facing redundancy in the region have been thrown a multi-million pound lifeline by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for Greater Merseyside.

Merseyside is benefitting from a £9.8 million cash injection to support workers who have been, or are being made redundant.

The funds have been designated to the area as part of a £100 million package of measures designed to support workers affected by redundancy.

The number of people unemployed in the UK rose by 21,000 between August and October to 2.49 million.

The  LSC ‘Response to Redundancy’ programme aims to give workers facing redundancy the best possible chance of securing new employment quickly by giving employers the opportunity to equip staff with essential skills training during their redundancy consultation period.

Employees can do training for up to three months while under redundancy consultation which is bespoke to the individual career goals of each employee.

Paul Tinsley, Partnership Director for LSC Sefton, said: “This programme means that we can now support individuals and businesses right the way through the redundancy process, from the consultation period, through training for a new job to continuing support once employees are starting in new workplaces.

“Employers using the service often take into account the employee’s future career path too and the training is tailored to reflect this.”

LSC Response to Redundancy support packages usually range between two and eight weeks.
