![]() The University of Liverpool LEAD Programme
Good Leadership can be the difference between a successful and unsuccessful business Designed specifically around the needs of SME owner-managers, the University of Liverpool in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University delivers an innovative leadership development programme, called LEAD. The 10-month programme aims to improve staff productivity and business processes; help delegates manage their business more effectively; and increase their confidence to make the right decisions. Businesses that took part in LEAD over the last four years have benefited from a significant increase in sales turnover as a result of their participation. And as a part of this programme, the University of Liverpool is delighted to provide complimentary membership to all the LEAD delegates by providing an access to the Hub Lounge at the Foresight Centre that further enhances them with an opportunity to network informally with their other LEAD peer members /colleagues and access to an ‘office from office’ environment. The Hub Lounge at the Foresight Centre offers you a facility purpose designed to enable you ready access to a contemporary space suitable for networking, checking emails or preparing for your next meeting in a relaxed and fully serviced environment. Stephen Lee, owner of Alpha Financial Management, was one of the participants: “Like many business owners, I became trapped in the day-to-day running of the business, devoting less time to the planning and goal-setting that made me start up the business in the first place. LEAD has energised me, helped me to take time out of the business to do just that. It prompted me to look again at how we are going to take the business forward over the coming years.” I especially found the coaching sessions helpful, which involved discussing business issues on a one-to-one basis. You then ultimately come up with your own solutions, making yourself more accountable and helping you to take action. I also think the business exchange or shadowing was an excellent part of the programme; enabling us to share in each others’ problems and come up with shared solutions from our own business experiences.” Another delegate was Gill Ditchburn, Chief Executive of the Sefton Education Business Partnership: “I signed up for the LEAD programme, because I didn’t want to do yet another qualification, I wanted to learn from others in similar situations to myself and share experiences. After participating in LEAD, I feel I’m better able to implement decisions and act quicker, and plan better for the future. “ The action learning sets are really useful in helping to give everyone support to move their business forward. You commit to carrying out actions, before meeting up again, that you actually set for yourself, this helps you to focus on what you need to do.” LEAD concentrates on two areas of the business: the business itself and the personal development of the owner-manager. The programme is made up of several elements which run alongside each other throughout the 10 months. Taking part in LEAD will allow you to meet equally passionate owner/managers from within your region, contacts that may support you for the lifetime of your business. You will also benefit from a carefully blended programme of knowledge from the best academics and leading business practitioners. Register for a 10 month programme featuring world class speakers, personal coaching and group learning events.
